Greece’s 14 regional airports handled 32.3 million passengers in the first ten months of 2023, up 8.4% from 2022 and 12% from 2019, airport management company Fraport said on Tuesday.
The data was presented by George Vilos, Fraport Greece’s executive director of commercial affairs and business development, at a press briefing held on Tuesday.
Passenger traffic at these airports is estimated to reach 33.8 million passengers by the end of the year, up from 31.2 million passengers in 2022, the report said. The top ten foreign markets included the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, France, Austria, Israel and the Czech Republic.
The upward trend in passenger traffic reflects the competitiveness of the Greek tourism product, which includes the modernization of tourism-related infrastructure, Vilos noted.
Fraport Greece has invested more than 1.8 billion euros in creating a modern and secure gateway to the country, Vilos noted, and 50 million euros are invested annually in further modernization of airports.
