Finland leaves only one checkpoint open on the border with Russia (video)

Finland has decided to close all but one of the checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation, said Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in a statement yesterday evening.

According to the decision of the Finnish government, three more border crossing points will be closed on the night of November 25 – in Kuusamo, Salla and Vartius – on the land border between Finland and Russia. Only one Finnish-Russian border crossing point will remain open, Raia-Joosepi, where asylum seekers can apply for international protection. This border crossing point is the most difficult for Russians to reach and is only open four hours a day.

Helsinki announced the lack of progress in negotiations with Moscow over the migration crisis, writes euronews. Finland accused the Russian authorities of deliberately increasing migration pressure at the border, but the Kremlin categorically denies the accusations.

As we previously reported, Finland closed the 4 largest checkpoints in the southern part of the border and planned to completely close the border with Russia from Wednesday. However, this decision was declared unconstitutional, Vice-Chancellor of Justice Mikko Puumalainen blocked This is the government’s proposal.
