Unprecedented statement by NATO Secretary General J. Stoltenberg: "Our relations with Turkey have not suffered, although they support Hamas"

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, responding to a question about Turkey’s support for Hamas, made an unprecedented statement, saying that “this is something that does not affect its relations with NATO”!

The United States tolerates all the insults of RT Erdogan and his completely independent political program without experiencing the slightest reaction. We are talking about a country in which Erdogan’s government partner N. Bahçeli said that if the Israelis continue their attack on Gaza, Turkey will intervene militarily in the situation!

“It’s never easy when we have different views within an alliance,” Stoltenberg said in an interview with the German News Agency. The NATO chief added that this “in no way affects what we do or don’t do, because we have no role in this particular conflict!”

And all this after Hamas attacked Israeli communities near Gaza, killing more than 1,400 people, and Turkish President R.T. Erdogan called this group “liberation”. USA and EUTurkey’s NATO allies call Hamas a terrorist organization.

As a result of the war in Gaza, Erdogan broke off contacts with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Netanyahu is no longer our interlocutor in any sense. We have crossed him out, we have removed him,” Erdogan said. He also condemned Israel for the deaths of more than 10,000 people in Gaza as a result of shelling since attacks Hamas on October 7, according to the Palestinian Authority Health Ministry.

Erdogan’s stance has not drawn condemnation from NATO allies, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is expected to host Erdogan in Berlin next week.

Stoltenberg said that this position was not related to the expected ratification of Sweden’s application to join the alliance, but he found it hard to believe. “These are two completely separate issues” – he commented.

The Turkish government submitted documents for ratification to parliament after the outbreak of the Gaza war.

“So now, in the midst of the crisis, Turkey is moving forward in accordance with the agreement we reached at the NATO summit in Vilnius last July, where Sweden pledged to do more to fight terrorism.”, said the NATO Secretary General. Stoltenberg stressed that no NATO member has suffered more terrorist attacks than Turkey and pointed out that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is also designated a terrorist organization by the EU.

As one American politician said: “He’s a son of a bitch, but he’s OUR son of a bitch.”
