M. Netanyahu: “The Israeli army will control Gaza after the war”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about what Gaza will look like after the war, saying that Israeli troops will remain in the Palestinian enclave to ensure “security.”

In an interview with ABC, Netanyahu said Israel would likely retain “security responsibility” in the Gaza Strip after the end of the war with Hamas.

The question of how Israel intends to handle Gaza’s post-war future remains open and pressing as Israeli troops move deeper into the enclave as part of the campaign to eliminate Hamas, which has ruled the strip for more than 15 years.

“I think Israel will be responsible for security for an indefinite period of time,” Netanyahu said. “We have seen what happens when we don’t have that…responsibility for security, and what we have is an explosion of Hamas terrorism on such a scale things we couldn’t imagine.”

Recall that a few days ago, White House Press Secretary John Kirby, speaking on CNN, said: “I think we can all foresee a period of time after the end of the conflict when Israeli troops will still be in Gaza and will have some initial responsibilities for ensuring security.”

In fact, this means the occupation of the Gaza Strip and the virtual liquidation of the Palestinian Authority.
