The government is beginning to develop state property for the construction of social housing. By decision of the Minister of Economy and Finance, the project “Social Housing for the Most Vulnerable Groups of the Population – Municipality of Athens”, with a total budget of 1,032,114 euros, is included in the Recovery Fund.
The project involves the reconstruction of the inactive housing stock of the Municipality of Athens and its integration into the affordable housing network with the aim of providing housing support to vulnerable categories of the population in difficult housing situations.
The responsible for the project is the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, the project is financed by the same ministry, and the implementer is the tourism development and promotion company in Athens, Anaptixakiaki SA OTA and the Municipality of Athens.
At the same time, in parliament, the Minister of Social Welfare and Family Sofia Zacharaki, answering a pressing question from PASOK MP Pavlos Geroulanos, mentioned the program for providing housing and work for homeless and vulnerable groups of the population, which included 431 families and 685 fellow citizens, and the program “Κάλυψη” (coverage), in which 46 municipalities participate.
According to Ms. Zaharaki, a social rental program will be launched in the next period, which will involve the use of public property for the construction of social housing and incentives for owners of closed apartments.
