Are you going to Turkey? First, read the new rules for renting housing to tourists

Turkey has changed the rules for renting out housing to tourists, as reported by the official government publication Resmî Gazete.

Published resolution concerns landlords, but may affect the ability and comfort of tenants. The Turkish authorities have tightened the rules for renting housing to tourists.

Short term rental

In order to rent out housing for a short period, the property owner must not only have a special license from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, but also obtain the consent of all owners in the house. Both of these conditions must be met before contracts can be entered into with guests. If he fails to comply with the new rules, he could be fined up to $35,000. In addition, at the entrance to the rented premises there must be a sign with information that the property is rented out to tourists.

Rent for more than 100 days

To rent out housing to tourists for long-term rent, owners must also first purchase a license, writes “Economic truth”. Subletting of housing is prohibited. It is not yet clear how much you will have to pay for the license and sign – this will be determined by the ministry.

A little about fines

For renting out housing without a license, there is an administrative fine of 100,000 Turkish lira ($3,500) for each premises. After receiving notice of the fine, the owner must issue a license within 15 days, otherwise he will be fined another 500,000 liras ($17,600), and after another 15 days – 1 million liras ($35,300). There is also a fine for subletting housing (in the amount of 100,000 liras) and for not having a sign at the entrance.

And the “cherry on the cake”: if more than four rental contracts are concluded in a year, from the date of the first contract, the owner will face a fine of 1 million liras.
