Prosecutors are investigating the serious injury of a 16-year-old girl during clashes with police

Police issued a statement saying they were subjected to a violent “unprovoked attack” by a group of 50 people with their faces covered. Police say the men “immediately dispersed without police using their equipment.”

  • 28.10. At about 20.15, police from the Ο.Π.Κ.Ε. group, searching for a group of people who had previously broken into a store, causing damage and injuring two people, were attacked unprovoked by about 50 people in the Neo Iraklio area.
  • These people, with their facial features covered, attacked with stones and bottles, and immediately dispersed, without the police using their equipment.
  • After the above-mentioned individuals left, police observed a woman lying on the ground wearing black clothing, gloves, a surgical mask and hood, and discovered she had a head injury.
  • While trying to provide first aid to her, a group of 100-150 people with covered faces, wooden and metal sticks, and other objects carried out another attack on police officers, as a result of which 2 official vehicles were severely damaged and 2 officers were injured.
  • To combat the new attack, police officers used appropriate means, as a result of which the attackers fled, and an ambulance was called to the scene, which, accompanied by police officers, took the victim to the hospital, where she is being treated. It was established that this is a girl who was detained for participation in the above attack and was subsequently temporarily released by order of the competent prosecutor. At the same time, she was examined by a forensic pathologist at the hospital.
  • At the scene of the attack, a protective helmet covered with black paint, 3 stones, and a glass plastic bottle were discovered and seized.
  • On 10/29, early in the morning, a group of approximately 200 people gathered in Exarchia, where they split into small groups. Of these, a group of 80 people threw 8 Molotov cocktails, 4 of which were explosive, and set fire to two garbage containers, as well as stones, sticks and bottles at the police officers of the subdirectorate for restoring order, who were at the scene and used appropriate means. Three Molotov cocktails were seized and will be sent for laboratory testing.
  • A preliminary investigation into the incidents is being conducted by the State Security Unit, and an administrative investigation has been ordered.

Solidarity rallies

On Monday evening, anti-fascists organized a rally of solidarity with the wounded girl in the center of Athens. Protesters said the girl suffered injuries after she was beaten by police when she fell to the ground.
