Thousands of demonstrators marched to the Israeli embassy in Athens on Sunday, demanding an end to hostilities and killings of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Chanting “Freedom for Palestine,” demonstrators marched in front of the Israeli embassy for about half an hour, demanding “Stop the massacre of the Palestinian people in Gaza!”
The organizer of the procession was the communist trade union Panhellenic Combat Front (PAME) with the support of public organizations. Many Palestinians took part in the action, including Palestinian Ambassador Youssef Dorhom.
The rally began in Eleftherias Park, where speakers called for “an end to the Israeli occupation, the creation of a free Palestine with 1967 borders and a capital in East Jerusalem.”
The protesters also condemned the Greek government’s decision to abstain from the UN vote on Jordan’s resolution on a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip.
The rally was attended by a large delegation of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Ambassador of the Palestinian Authority to Greece. He was welcomed by the Palestinian community in Greece, the House of Palestine and its members.
KKE Edition 902noted that virtually no Greek media reported on the rally: “Greek media almost did not devote a single video or video about this human river demonstrating near the Israeli embassy. Those who wrote something inside fulfilled … the obligation , studiously avoiding showing photographs and footage that would reflect the scale of the rally. In other words, they made every effort to shift it to the “penalties.” Such skill would be the envy of the Israeli Embassy…”
“Immediately stop the massacre of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip by the bloody state of Israel. Put an end to the Israeli occupation. We are fighting for the peace of nations. For a free Palestine within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem,” the participants said.
In their speeches, trade union representatives condemned NATO and EUsaying they were responsible for the massacre of the Palestinian people.
Those gathered also condemned the Greek government, which abstained from voting at the UN on the Jordanian resolution on a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip.
The action ended without incident.
This time, the police did not use gas and stun grenades against the participants, as during the previous rally of thousands in support of the Palestinians, held on October 18. However, police buses dug up the demonstrators’ path to the Israeli Embassy, completely blocking the road.
