Arsakio Passage: how a historic building is being transformed into a culinary and cultural hub

A building with almost 200 years of tradition, located at the intersection of Pesmatzoglou and Stadiou streets, which includes, among other things, the Karolos Koun Art Theater and the State Council, is being transformed, and with it the center of Athens is changing.

In a conversation with Mr. Panos Triantafyllopoulos, Managing Director of the Legendary Food company that implemented the project in the center of Athens, he shared with us his vision of the project and the progress of the work. The new gastronomic and cultural center unites the past with the present and the future, and promises to be a magnet for both Athenians and tourists visiting Greece.

Legendary Food won the tender for the project in 2019 and leased 12,000 square meters of the building’s total area of 25,000 square meters for 35 years, occupying all ground floor premises, which include the House of Books, Orpheus Passage and the internal Atrium of Arsakion.

Work began in early April and the building now meets modern anti-seismic standards. The project is expected to cost between €10 million and €12 million and the company plans to open to the public in September 2024.

The project will become a multi-platform for gastronomy and culture, which will unite Syntagma with Omonia. Legendary Foods’ goal is to build trust with consumers through the new mixed-use space. The project will focus on promoting Greek products and the Mediterranean diet, giving the visitor a taste of Greece.
