Following incidents at around 2am on Sunday (22.10) between a group of about 100 anarchists and members of the MAT special police unit, the area around Zografou University Campus resembles a war landscape.
Two police officers were injured, four cars were burned, trash cans were reduced to ash, and broken signs and piles of rocks and cans were strewn everywhere.
For more than an hour, Olof Palme Street resembled a battlefield between a group of anarchists setting up barricades from burnt trash cans and police trying to push them back towards the university.
The riots began when about 100 people with their faces covered with masks came out of the gates of the university and began throwing stones at the police guarding it. The unrest intensified when youths pelted MAT squads with Molotov cocktails and flares, in response to which chemical agents and stun grenades were used.
