Mitsotakis promises to start a fight against multinational corporations selling more expensive goods in Greece

“We are not a banana republic”said the Prime Minister of Greece, promising to start the fight “against multinational and national companies that sell their products at much higher prices than in other countries.”

In an interview with ANT1 on Wednesday, speaking about the high prices of food and essentials at the market, Mitsotakis admitted that prices are still high, but argued: “We are seeing the beginning of the end in terms of rising inflation.”

As for the prices for olive oil, which jump from week to week, the Prime Minister blamed this on “global phenomenon”once again rejecting the prospect of a VAT cut and talking about government actions to curb high prices.

He also said that with prices falling, income growth will continue. Since market control had not brought satisfactory results, the Prime Minister decided to send “signal” companies and multinational corporations that profit from the market. “If some people think that Greece is a banana republic and sell the same goods at different prices, then they have big problems. If necessary, we will deal with them, and we will. Be patient and you will see.” – Mitsotakis warned.

He emphasized that “interested in ensuring that progress in the economy is reflected in everyone, i.e. in increasing wages in both the private and public sectors.”

PS Continuing Mitsotakis’s warnings: on Friday evening I could not find the usual liter bottle of olive oil that I wanted to buy in one of the supermarkets… On social networks, Greeks write that some supermarkets in northern Greece have introduced a limit on the sale of up to 3 bottles of olive oil . And one must think that they are still selling oil there that was squeezed out last year, when it cost almost half as much as what wholesalers are selling this year.
