Major Russian offensive in Avdiivka: they broke through two of Ukraine’s three defense lines

While the entire planet, with bated breath, watches the events in Israel, no less important events are taking place in Ukraine: the Russian Armed Forces launched a major counter-offensive in Avdiivka, the northern “gate” of Donetsk, and have already captured two of the three Ukrainian defense lines.

Avdeevka and Maryinka are two settlements that, since 2014, have been turned into powerful fortifications, Ukrainian “thorns” outside the Russian city of Donetsk. These are two small towns that were fortified by the Ukrainians from 2014 to the present day and are a big problem for the Russian-speaking regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, as they block communications between the two cities.

Avdiivka is also the only obstacle to Ukrainian troops striking Bakhmut from the south. Its fortifications are powerful and multi-level.

The offensive has been underway since dawn, and involves units consisting of fighters from the private company Storm Z. This is an organization similar to Wagner. It is likely that this offensive is being carried out as part of reconnaissance in force with the goal of forcing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to transfer their already thinned units from the Zaporozhye and Bakmut fronts to this area.

However, if the offensive is successful, it will be a strategic victory for Russia, as a large number of Russian forces will be released, which will have consequences for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The offensive is actively supported by the Russian Air Force.

Earlier it was reported that Russian troops went on the offensive near Kupyansk and Liman Pervy, as well as in the Zaporozhye and South Donetsk directions.
