France: "epidemic" bedbugs continue and "spreading"7 schools are closed in Paris (video)

The infestation of bedbugs is causing more and more trouble – Parisian authorities were forced to close seven schools in the capital. French Education Minister Gabriel Attal admits:

“Bedbugs have been found at various levels in… I think 17 establishments, and as I speak to you now, seven establishments are closed for this reason.”

Attal said these are just a few of the nearly 60,000 establishments. But he added that there should be no delay in reacting. How writes The Gurdian, the government is planning a series of meetings this week to look into the surge in reported bedbug incidents. On Friday it became known about the closure of five schools, where 1,500 students study. Several more were closed for disinfection.

Approximately 1/10 of all French households have had a bedbug problem in the last few years. This is solved with frequent disinfections costing several hundred euros.

It became known that they will search for bedbugs on the railway with the help of sniffer dogs. A few months before the start of the 2024 Olympics, the French capital was literally attacked by bedbugs. They are found in large numbers in public places in the city: in transport, cinemas, medical institutions.

In videos posted on social media, bedbugs can be seen crawling across the seats of the Paris metro, which carries more than five million passengers a day. Some Parisians have reported being bitten at various major chain cinemas. Parasites have even been spotted at Charles de Gaulle airport. Specialist Frank Dabi explains:

“People return from vacation, bring them in their luggage. They end up in public places and actively spread. During its life, a bedbug can lay up to 500 eggs. Their number increases exponentially.”

Meanwhile, in the UK they say that bed bugs have already reached London on trains from Paris. British expert says:

“As we’re proud British, we don’t want to talk about bedbugs… I’ve heard statistics that in the last two years in Paris one in ten houses is infested. I’d say here in London over the last four or five years it’s “probably closer to one in five houses.”

You should also worry about bed bugs in Greece. warn ΣΕΑΜΕ specialists: “We are talking about an insect traveler, it can easily penetrate luggage.” Giorgos Lamprou, President of the Greek Association of Pest Control Companies, says that in addition to the fact that bed bugs travel with tourists, several cases have also been observed in the tourist areas of our country. However, bed bugs have always been a problem.
