A surveillance video has been released showing the moment a bus crashed near Venice in northern Italy. The bus fell 10 meters onto a power line and caught fire.

According to the latest information, Italian media write, the low height of the viaduct railings could have played a decisive role – it does not exceed 1.5 meters in height. Experts studying the circumstances of road accidents also take this scenario into account. Massimo Fiorese, managing director of the company that owned the bus, La Linea, said: “The bridge railings resemble a simple wall.”

After the prosecutor refuted the version of the involvement of another car in the tragedy, now the most likely scenario, which is considered as the cause of the accident, concerns mainly the human factor: the driver felt unwell and lost control of the vehicle.

Possible causes for the incident include an alleged lack of proper maintenance. There are no signs of the vehicle braking.

The first impact of the car on the railing, as the investigation established, occurred approximately fifty meters before the point of impact. Venice prosecutors will conduct an autopsy on the body of the 40-year-old bus driver. writes CNN Greece.

The driver was also found to have a mobile phone, the details of which are being examined by experts. Survivors of the tragic incident are expected to testify, but most have not yet had a chance to speak with investigators. The prosecutor’s office seized the black box.

Gianluca Agostini, who lives in Marghera, near the scene of the accident, says:

“The road had been in poor condition for several years. They said they were doing some repairs, but they had just started. I noticed there were pieces of rusty, loose fencing there.”

Dr. Federica Stella was among the rescue team that was the first to arrive at the scene of the tragedy. She says:

“All the wounded are young people. Now their relatives are arriving at the hospital. Since all the wounded are foreigners, their relatives had to travel from their countries. They are arriving little by little.”

The accident occurred around 7:00 pm on October 3 on a road known as the Rizzardi flyover, next to the train tracks leading to Venice. The prosecutor’s office opened a case.
