7,500 bus and trolleybus stops are being upgraded to “smart”

ΟΑΣΑ promotes the modernization of the system, which now offers passengers real-time information about public transport routes on all urban and suburban lines of the transport network.

Technological update of the telematics system OASA will allow for faster and more reliable transfer of information. At the same time, the agency’s management gives priority to increasing the number of “smart stops” with new electronic displays.

This plan, as is known, concerns the installation of at least 500 additional “smart stops” on the streets of the Athens urban complex.

Electronic displays notify passengers of the vehicle’s arrival time. Each passenger can quickly find the number of the required vehicle and find out how much time is left before arrival. The electronic boards also display the direction and indicate the start and end stops. Such equipment makes using public transport more convenient and comfortable..

OAΣA, aiming to make the most of the opportunities offered by technology today, plans to convert all 7,500 stops on the capital’s transport network into smart ones.

The telematics app στα smartphones, currently used by more than 1.2 million users, provides passengers with real-time information about the arrival of the next vehicle at each stop. By typing the name of a stop in the online application, the arrival time of all vehicles passing through a specific stop is immediately displayed.

OAΣA Managing Director Georgios Spiliopoulos emphasized in a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency that “telematics is entering a new era. This is a service that provides passengers with information about city transport in real time. At the same time, it provides network drivers and managers with the information they need to optimize their work. Technological and functional upgrades, as well as expansion of the telematics network, are being implemented at a rapid pace.”
