Poland intends "stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine"as much as needed

The head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zbigniew Rau, said that Poland will support Ukraine and resist unfair competition.

He called not to turn the grain dispute into “political theater.” Poland is ready to discuss the grain import embargo with Kiev, but Ukraine must withdraw the complaint sent to the World Trade Organization, the Polish Minister of Agriculture said. He also promised to facilitate the transit of Ukrainian grain through Polish territory to other countries.

We remind you that after EU lifted the embargo on the supply of Ukrainian grain to five European countries, and Poland, Hungary and Slovakia unilaterally maintained this measure, Ukraine appealed in the WTO.

The issue of relations between the two countries was raised during the visit of Zbigniew Rau, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, to New York, where the 78th session of the UN General Assembly is taking place. Rau assured that Warsaw’s policy towards Ukraine will not change.

Polish President Andrzej Duda also promised to continue to support Ukraine. However, he admitted that the supply of agricultural products from Ukraine to the Polish market has become a subject of disagreement between the countries. Duda emphasized that the government should support its farmers.

Meanwhile, the United States is asking Poland to explain the statement about “cessation of arms supplies to Ukraine,” the media write. They turned to Poland for clarification of the words of their Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki that his state is not yet transferring military aid to Ukraine “because it is rearming itself,” Bloomberg writes, citing a senior US defense official.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that Poland remains committed to supporting Ukraine, but its exact position is unclear, adding that differences between Kiev and Warsaw have not led to a split in the unity of the coalition supporting Ukraine.

A diplomatic source in Europe told Bloomberg that Polish diplomats had privately assured foreign colleagues of Poland’s continued military support for Ukraine, even if on a smaller scale.

Trade Representative of Ukraine, Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka, told to the Polish edition of Onet:

“We must be careful to show each other that we are not a threat, calm markets and lift restrictions. Ukraine and Poland are two agricultural countries, and we cannot live as if there is a Chinese wall between us. All conversations from the Ukrainian side about some kind of prohibitions – this is about a case that I hope will never happen. Polish apples and cabbage should be sold on the Ukrainian market as long as they do not cause harm. Just as Ukrainian goods do not harm the Polish market. “The formula of the agreement between the countries is quite simple: the Ukrainian government should think about Polish farmers, and the Polish government should think about Ukrainian farmers. The interests of Polish farmers interest me as much as Ukrainian ones. But we want our colleagues to hear about our interests.”

Returning from a working visit to Canada and being in Lublin, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, as reported on his official website, presented state awards to citizens of Poland to journalist Bianka Zalewska and volunteer physician Damian Duda. The President of Ukraine also thanked the Polish people and noted that any challenges on the common path are nothing compared to the strength between Ukrainians and Poles:

I want to thank all the Polish people, all the people who from the first days opened their families, their homes, opened themselves and helped. I believe that any challenges on our common path – this is nothing compared to the fact that there is such strength between our people.”
