A few seconds before the accident, the driver almost hit a mother and child

Greek media have released shocking video of a fatal road accident that occurred on Tuesday evening (September 19), shortly after 20:00, in Markopoulo.

The traffic accident occurred at km 36 of Porto Rafti Avenue, resulting in the death of the driver, and the 43-year-old passenger of the car was seriously injured and is in critical condition at the Evangelismos Clinic. At the same time, three more were injured.

The car, driven by a 50-year-old man, was moving at high speed along Porto Rafti Avenue, in the left lane, and, as shown in the photo and video, at that time a mother and child were crossing the road (in a blind spot where there was no pedestrian crossing) .

The man “with a whistle” flew literally a few centimeters from the mother leading the child by the hand. Apparently in shock, he, trying to prevent a collision, taxied into the oncoming lane. This led to a head-on collision with another passing vehicle.

The driver died and four people were injured. The wreckage of the colliding cars was found along the avenue at a great distance from the scene of the incident, as well as near nearby shops. The intervention of the fire brigade was required to rescue the passengers from the two mangled cars.
