How many Russian military are on the territory of Ukraine (video)

The UK Ministry of Defense says the Russian military intends to recruit 420,000 contract soldiers by the end of this year. ISW believes that there will be no mobilization in the Russian Federation before the 2024 elections. How many Russian troops are already in Ukraine?

More than a quarter of a million Russians have voluntarily joined the armed forces in recent months, and 1,000 to 1,500 Russian citizens are signing voluntary contracts to join the military every day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said yesterday.

Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said that the Russian military has concentrated more than 420 thousand troops in occupied Ukraine. And this is without the National Guard and other structures and divisions. That is, the indicator does not fully reflect the total number of Russian forces participating in the war in Ukraine, states euronews.

On September 11, Ukrainian and British military officials reported that there could be even more Russians. The British Ministry of Defense said that the Russian military plans to recruit 420 thousand contract soldiers by the end of 2023.

The think tank ISW has calculated, however, that this number likely includes many volunteers already fighting in Ukraine who have been forced to sign contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry by July 1, 2023.

The UK Ministry of Defense believes that in the run-up to the Russian presidential elections, which are scheduled for March 2024, the Russian authorities will most likely seek to avoid further unpopular mobilizations.
