Thessaloniki: police mobilization on the occasion of the opening of the 87th ΔΕΘ

Today, 09/09/23, the 87th International Thessaloniki Fair (ΔΕΘ) was inaugurated, with approximately 1,500 direct and indirect exhibitors, as well as 18 government representatives, taking part. This year’s country of honor is Bulgaria.

However, ΔΕΘ hospitably opened its doors without an official opening ceremony, the Prime Minister as speaker, which was scheduled for 8 pm and was canceled due to the dramatic consequences of the cyclone. Enhanced Outfits ΕΛΑΣ ensure compliance with order, including on city streets.

Amid extreme flooding affecting Thessaly, trade unions, groups and student associations are planning to hold rallies in the center of Thessaloniki. All demonstrations are scheduled to take place in the afternoon. In particular, the meeting GSEE and ADEDY will take place at 18:00 at the Venizelos statue, and the PAME meeting will take place half an hour earlier in ΧΑΝΘ Square.

Relatives of those killed in the fatal train accident (in Tempi) and the anarchist movement will also arrive there.

Police measures will be strict, and all available forces from Thessaloniki will be used to implement the operational plan, as well as several platoons from the regions of Northern Greece and Attica. Two prosecutors will monitor the implementation of the measures.

During the rallies, the center of Thessaloniki will be closed to drivers, and traffic from one end of the city to the other will be carried out through the ring road. Traffic wardens will be at key points to regulate traffic. There will also be changes to OASTH routes. The above traffic rules will gradually come into effect from 15:00.
