“Plans must be made immediately to expel all African migrants from Israel following the involvement of Eritrean groups in violent clashes in Tel Aviv.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
At the same time, the Israeli Prime Minister announced the immediate deportation of all Africans involved in violent incidents. This is something that no Greek Prime Minister even thought to say after the frequent cases of violence between illegal and legal immigrants in the center of major cities (Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, etc.).
His statements came a day after opposing groups of Eritreans engaged in a bloody feud that left dozens injured. Supporters and opponents of the current Eritrean government used sticks, rods and stones to smash shop windows and police cars. Israeli police fired tear gas, flash grenades and bullets, while police officers on horseback tried to contain the protesters.
Violence erupted outside the Eritrean embassy when… protesting “asylum seekers” were prevented from entering the building ahead of a cultural event that was to take place there.
The issue of migrants has long divided Israel, and recent outbreaks of violence have brought it back into the spotlight. “We want to take tough action against the rioters, including the immediate deportation of those who took part,” Netanyahu said. He asked ministers to present him with plans to expel all other illegal invaders and noted in his speech that the Supreme Court had rejected some measures designed to force migrants to leave.
