Not one, not two, but … as many as 368 traffic violations were confirmed by the police, who once again rushed to disperse motorcycle and car races (“κοντράς”) organized by “adrenaline junkies” surrounded by gambling fans. The result – 368 fines, 12 arrests.
As usual, the gathering took place on the coastal highway, the Athens-Sounio expressway. Here almost every night more than 300 people gather and have fun in this way., a group with a page on social networks and thousands of “fans”.
Risk drivers, some of which are completely “headless” because they even have no driver’s license endanger not only themselves, but also hundreds of our fellow citizens, road users.

According to ELAS in a related announcement, targeted actions and specialized traffic management with the participation of the Attica Traffic Authority employees were carried out last night, Friday, September 1, in the area of u200bu200bthe coastal entertainment center called Ribas (Varkiza embankment).
The above operational actions were aimed at combating impromptu races (“κοντράς”), as well as other dangerous violations that lead to traffic accidents, violation of the safety of transportation and movement of citizens.
At the same time, 368 violations of the Civil Procedure Code were confirmed, for which appropriate administrative fines were imposed, and 12 people were arrested for not having a driver’s license.
As you know, racers do not just compete “who is faster”, but also equip their vehicles in a special way: increase engine power, remove mufflers (to create a more “bright” effect), and also demonstrate dangerous (extreme) driving skills and stunts. This time, the violators seized:
- 86 driver’s license,
- 79 driver’s licenses/powers of attorney to drive a vehicle,
- 58 license plates.
According to Greek law enforcement agencies, even stolen cars took part in the races! Employees ΕΛΑΣ immobilized and transported 12 vehicles (among which 2 stolen cars were found).
It is noted that the Greek police attaches particular importance to road safety issues, and in this context, control will continue with unrelenting intensity in order to reduce the number of accidents.
