The European Commission approved on Friday (September 1, 2023) a new Pfizer vaccine.
The adapted vaccine Comirnaty XBB.1.5 was developed by BioNTech/Pfizer to protect against coronavirus. The composition is struggling with new variants (strains) of covid.
This was announced by Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakidou, while warning that an “explosive cocktail” of coronavirus and seasonal flu is coming in the fall and winter, and citizens need to be especially careful and protect both themselves and their loved ones from a deadly infection. .

“I applaud the very early approval of a dedicated COVID vaccine that will target new proliferation options. COVID-19 will circulate along with seasonal flu in the upcoming fall/winter season, and we need to be prepared for this,” emphasizes Stella Kyriakidou, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety.
The statement also notes that “this potential dual threat poses an increased risk to vulnerable people. Vaccination is our most effective tool against both viruses and therefore I urge everyone, especially the most vulnerable citizens, to follow the scientific advice and get vaccinated as soon as possible“.
