This night in the sky “blue moon”: the largest and brightest supermoon in 2023

On the night of the last day of August, one can observe the astronomical phenomenon of the supermoon – the “Blue Moon”. This will be the second full moon of the month, as the first was on August 2nd.

There are usually 12 full moons in a year. The time interval between them is always the same – 29.5 days, astronomers explain. Very rarely, once every few years, the full moon falls at the very beginning of the month – this means that the next one will be at the very end of the same month. For the first time since October 2020, two full moons occur within the same month.

The second full moon of the month is called the Blue Moon in English. But this has nothing to do with the color of our satellite! The unusual name is associated with the expression Once in a Blue Moon (literally – “once under the blue moon”) – this is how they say about an extremely rare event. Two full moons in a month happen not so often and not every year!

Double Full Moon in August

December 3 - Supermoon!

Officially, according to NASA, the full moon will occur at 17:52 Greek time. The Blue Moon happens every two or three years. The last “blue moon” rose in August 2021, and the next one is expected in August 2024.

At its closest distance from the Earth, at the perigee of its orbit, the Moon will be on August 30, at 17:52 Moscow time, and will take the full moon phase at 03:37 Athens on August 31. The difference between these events will be 9 hours 45 minutes.

Astrologers also keep up with the times and give their advice in connection with the full moon. For those who believe in astrology, it may be worth listening to their opinion.

Do’s and Don’ts on August 31st
During the full moon, the probability of disrupting any plans is especially high, so during this period it is better not to rush anywhere. Astrologers advise to relax, meet friends, have fun in the company of loved ones. It is necessary to forgive insults and distract from bad thoughts. You should adequately perceive criticism, not get annoyed for any reason and not look for those responsible for your own miscalculations.

February 19 - Supermoon!

It is recommended not to start new business and projects or sign important documents. You don’t have to change jobs. Astrologers also warn of the dangers of long-distance travel during the full moon. Showdown in the family will not lead to anything good either. It is better to restrain emotions and avoid harsh statements.
