For the first time since the issuance of a warrant for his arrest by the International Criminal Court, Russian President Vladimir Putin was going to visit another country – he accepted the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
How writes Bloomberg, citing sources, the Kremlin is preparing Putin’s visit to China in October for the One Belt, One Road forum. Three sources familiar with the situation say that Putin accepted the invitation of the head of China. According to two interlocutors of the publication, the President of the Russian Federation is ready to visit only those countries where his special services can fully guarantee his safety. China is one of those states.
This will be the first trip abroad by the head of the Russian Federation after the issuance of the warrant. The Russian leader missed the BRICS summit in South Africa after the local government ambiguously made it clear that he would have to comply with a court order for his arrest. Russia was represented at the summit by the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov.
