Thessaloniki: will serve a glass of water in old age? It’s not about him

A resident of Thessaloniki attacked the mother in response to a request for water, exposing her genitals and threatening to kill her.

The arrested 41-year-old man was sentenced by the city court of Thessaloniki to 14 months in prison with a three-year suspension of execution. He is accused of assaulting his 59-year-old mother and found guilty also of attempted physical harm, threats and insulting sexual dignity.

“Take her away from here, because if you do not take her away, you will find her dead in the morning,” the “loving” son threatened. Edition GRTIMES.GR quotes woman who applied for her son:

“I just got out of the hospital. I have 1.5 months to live. I was beaten a lot, all winter. I covered it many times. He kicked me out of the house, threw an ashtray at me, dragged me out of bed. He threw a dish at me with the food I cooked for him, which I fried for him, and broke all my fingers. He must not return home until I am dead.”

In turn, the defendant stated the following in his defense:

“I grew up with a schizophrenic mother. She took drugs. And I, due to a traumatic childhood experience, used cocaine. As soon as she returned home from the hospital, she asked me to bring her drugs. I’m sick, I’m not a criminal. I want you gave me a break, I want to go to the hospital for a closed rehab program I used (drugs) and became paranoid I didn’t hit her I lived with a sick person all these years I need help to recover I don’t I deserve jail.”

The incident occurred on August 17 at 21.00 in one of the houses in the Dendropotamos area. The woman filed an application to open a criminal case with a request to imprison her son, as she fears for her life. The statement noted that the son started a quarrel for no apparent reason. When she asked for water, he twisted her arm and nearly broke it. During the quarrel, he took out his genitals and began to scold her with rude words. Shortly before the police arrived, after the woman called 911, her son began to threaten her with murder. The woman was horrified and said she wanted her son to be held accountable:

“Lately, he has become unmanageable. I want him to be put in jail because I fear for my life. If he is released, I am afraid that he will kill me.”
