Heat again: 40 degrees from Monday and ten days of high temperatures

High temperatures are expected to prevail in Greece over the next 10 days, according to the latest forecast data from the National Observatory of Athens.

The reason for this will be the persistence of warm air masses over the Eastern Mediterranean, combined with the absence of significant phenomena.

Meteo.gr notes that, according to available data, these air masses will be 2-5 °C warmer than usual for this season.

The graph shows the temperature range up to 25/08 at an altitude of about 1500 m above Athens.

The red line shows the “warmest” scenario and the blue line shows the “coldest” one. The green line shows the change in the average temperature for all available model scenarios. Finally, the black horizontal line shows the approximate average for this period from 1991-2020 data.

As can be seen, in almost all scenarios, the temperature above normal for this season. An altitude of 1500 m is used to study temperature changes in the lower part of the atmosphere. It is noted that the final temperature configuration near the ground depends on a number of factors, such as the presence / absence of clouds and phenomena, as well as wind.

Therefore, in general, it is expected that temperatures will gradually increase over the next few days and remain high until the end of next week, naturally with slight fluctuations from day to day and between different parts of the country.

Judging by currently available forecastsair temperature since Monday 21/08 will reach or even exceed 40 °C.

However, during the night hours, the minimum temperature will drop below 27-29°C, except mainly in urban centers where, due to the urban heat island effect, the minimum temperature will be kept in the range of 27-29°C.
