Two arrests for an attack on a cafe located on Alexandras Avenue

According to Greek law enforcement agencies, two Greeks were arrested for attacking a cafeteria located near the Panathinaikos stadium in Ampelokipi.

In particular, on August 10 at 12:00 a group of unknown armed men damaged a cafe window. Police said the hijackers were later detained in Exarchia and found in possession of, among other things, a knife, balaclava masks, a hammer and pliers.

“2 citizens, aged 20 and 21, were detained as part of a “catch red-handed” procedure by the Immediate Action Police (Di.AS. Team). The detainees were charged with violating “sports legislation relating to fans; drug laws, possession of weapons and vandalism,” the report said.

In particular, in the morning hours of 10/08, a group of people on motorcycles drove up to the cafe and, having damaged its glass facade, disappeared. The police were called to the scene. During the search activities to capture the criminals, the police soon found them in the Exarchia area. The identities of the perpetrators are identified as the persons who committed the above criminal act. The following items were found and seized from them:

  • sachet containing 3 gr. cannabis,
  • jackknife,
  • gloves,
  • balaclava masks (full face Κουκούλα),
  • hammer and pliers,
  • 6 sprays,
  • various accessories, items and clothing (stickers, key rings, t-shirt, etc.) with the logo of a sports team.

Those arrested with a case formed against them by the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence at Sports Venues of the Attica Security Directorate have been taken to the competent prosecutor’s office, while an investigation into the identity of the other participants is ongoing.

The owner of the cafe that was raided was also arrested as part of an investigation into a hooligan attack in New Philadelphia that killed 29-year-old Michalis Katsouris.
