Bear escape from plane in Dubai (video)

An extraordinary incident occurred at Dubai International Airport – a bear escaped from the cargo hold of an Iraqi Airways plane.

The flight was delayed, and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shaya Sabbar al Sudani ordered a thorough investigation to identify those responsible. Iraqi Airways said it was not responsible for the bear breaking out of its enclosure while the plane was in the holding area at Dubai International Airport on Friday.

Specialists were called in to capture the animal – they put the bear to sleep with tranquilizers and safely removed it from the plane. The captain of the plane apologized to the passengers for the flight delay due to the bear’s attempt to escape.

Dubai International Airport – the world’s busiest hub for international travel – chose not to make any announcement on the matter. An Iraqi Airways spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the bear was meant to be transported to the Iraqi capital, but did not identify its owner.

On Saturday, the Iraqi airline said its crew had cooperated with United Arab Emirates authorities, who promptly dispatched experts to sedate the bear and facilitate its removal from the aircraft. She also stated that the procedures for transporting the bear were carried out in accordance with the law, with protocols and standards approved by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). An Iraqi Airways official confirmed to The Associated Press that the bear was being transported to the Iraqi capital.

Meanwhile, the trend of wealthy people in Iraq, especially in Baghdad, to keep predatory animals as pets has become increasingly popular, creating problems for the authorities in effectively enforcing wildlife law.

In the past, the Baghdad police have urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities to prevent these animals from being allowed on the streets of the city. They called for prompt reporting of such incidents to address the issue, writes GreekReporter.
