Tourists thank the people of Rhodes: “Food, water and sleeping bags were ready for us, it’s amazing!”

Tourists who find themselves on the “Island of the Knights” in the epicenter of events, speak in praise of the inhabitants of Rhodes and the assistance they provided during the dramatic hours of evacuation from hotels.

“We were at the Lindos hotel, and the locals, who arrived at the beach in their boats and boats, were picking up people. First of all, they put women and children on the ships, and then returned for the men. When we arrived at a safe part of the coast, we disembarked, and from there they put us on buses and brought us to school. In the nearest stores, we were offered water, food, and they didn’t take money. The taverns gave our children food and bananas. The Greeks took very good care of us and we just don’t have the words to express our gratitude to them,” the tourists wrote in a video posted on Twitter.

“I am really impressed with how well everything went and we are worried about the Greeks living here and what is happening to them. They took very good care of us as tourists,” she added. Other tourists, such as J. McMahon, praised the efforts of the people of Rhodes in every possible way to help people caught in the “fire trap”.

“Fire” of messages is raging for the sixth day in social networks. “At 4 in the morning we were placed in the sports hall of the school. And the locals had food/water/sleeping bags ready for us. Simply amazing! We stayed overnight at a school located in the center of Rhodes. No one knew what was happening and how it would end. However, the local Greeks did their best, took care of us with kindness and sincerity.”

Joy Joanne Say, who also spent the night at a school in Rhodes, was also impressed by the willingness of the locals to help tourists in every possible way. “I just arrived at the school in Rhodes. The Greek people and volunteers have been amazing pulling together in the face of such a terrible tragedy for their country,” he tweeted.

Helen Tonks blames a major travel agency that delivered tourists from the UK to Rhodes, despite the fact that his management was aware of the terrible situation on the island.

“Many thanks to the people of Rhodes for helping us tourists. We spoke to the hotel staff who were forced to leave their homes along with their families, but continued to work. I pray that they have safe houses where they can return. As one hotel employee said, “We are losing our homes and precious forests.” The Greeks are showing amazing selflessness…,” the foreigner writes on social networks.
