A Deutsche Welle film crew came under fire in Ukraine, and a cameraman was wounded. Russian military commander killed


A Deutsche Welle operator in the Donetsk region was wounded by Russian cluster munitions. On the same day, Russian journalists from RIA Novosti and Izvestia were wounded, military commander Rostislav Zhuravlev died.

The cameraman of the German state media company Evgeny Shilko was injured in the city of Druzhkovka, Donetsk region, when he came under fire as part of a film crew, informs DW:

“The operator of the Deutsche Welle media company Yevhen Shilko was wounded by Russian cluster munitions in the city of Druzhkovka, Donetsk region, which is located 23 km from the front line. The operator was taken to the hospital, now his condition is stable. The DW film crew came under Russian shelling in the afternoon, while filming Ukrainian military training at the training ground. During the attack, one Ukrainian military was killed, several more were seriously injured.”

Earlier on the same day, on Saturday, it became known that the RIA Novosti military commander Rostislav Zhuravlev was killed at the front in Ukraine, he died from a cluster munition. Acting head of the Zaporozhye region Evgeny Balitsky wrote in Telegram:

“Today, RIA Novosti war correspondent Rostislav Zhuravlev was killed as a result of the shelling of a civilian car, which followed from the city of Vasilyevka, Zaporozhye region, to the village of Vladimirovka.”

Four media workers received injuries of varying severity, they were quickly transferred to field medical facilities. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported quotes RIA News:

“During the evacuation, Rostislav Zhuravlev, a journalist from the RIA Novosti news agency, died from injuries as a result of a cluster submunition explosion.”

RIA Novosti photojournalist Konstantin Mikhalchevsky was injured. He was hospitalized, previously, he received a penetrating wound of the lower extremities. Izvestia journalists also suffered, REN TV reported:

“Izvestia correspondent Roman Polshakov and cameraman Dmitry Shikov were injured on July 22 in the zone of a special military operation during shelling by Ukrainian militants. The journalist received a broken leg, shrapnel wounds to his leg, abdomen and back. The cameraman suffered shrapnel wounds and a fracture of the hip bones.”
