Greece: first heat death and first arrest

In Chalkis, a 46-year-old man died of heat stroke. Restaurant owner arrested.

The police assume writes newsbeast.gr that he was involved in illegal food delivery. His restaurant was allegedly run by a man who died of heatstroke, overheated while delivering food on Thursday afternoon. The staff of the Chalkis hospital, where they tried to resuscitate him, say that this is probably the first death from the heat in the country:

“On Thursday 07/20/2023, he appeared at 16:55. in the emergency department of Chalkis Hospital in an ambulance with signs of heat stroke and a temperature of 40°C. Resuscitation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and intubation were carried out, but to no avail. The time of the isoelectric line of the electrocardiogram is 17:30. The possible cause of death is cardiac and respiratory arrest after exposure to very high temperatures.”
