A lioness on the streets of Berlin turned out to be… a wild boar

The alarm previously announced by the Berlin police about a lioness seen on the southwestern outskirts of the city turned out to be somewhat inaccurate. The fact is that the animal, which was mistaken for a lioness, turned out to be a wild boar …

The Berlin police urges residents to stay at home, and to be careful and careful when going outside – a lioness has been spotted on the southwestern outskirts of the city, they said in panic messages from Germany. According to the mayor of the Kleinmachnow district where the animal was seen, it was a false alarm, as the lion they were looking for turned out to be… a wild boar.

“I believe that there is no danger in Berlin and the surrounding area,” said Michael Grubert, the mayor of this suburb of Berlin, announcing the end of the search. At the same time, he explained that independent experts, based on a video recorded at night, determined that “it is most likely a wild boar.”

However, after a more detailed study of the video filmed on the night of July 20, in which the back and part of the tail of some animal are visible among the bushes, it was concluded that this is a wild boar. This was announced at a press conference held on Friday, July 21, in the city of Kleinmachnow, where the search was conducted for the last day, as it was supposed, a lioness who had escaped from the owners.

The mayor of Kleinmakhnow and a senior police officer confirmed that the operation to find the suspected predator was completed by noon. Traces of the animal were not found, and only two wild boars were found in the indicated place. Details of the analysis of the video that made the noise should be presented to the press. The analysis was carried out with the help of experts. It is reported that two independent experts “almost certainly” determined that it was a wild boar. In particular, they drew attention to the fact that the tail of the animal did not move in the same way as the tail of a lion usually moves. The police believe that “there is no more danger.”

If it was still a lioness, then where did she come from? In the federal state of Brandenburg, where the alleged predator was searched, 23 farms are officially registered, which contain at least one lion, writes DW. We are talking about three circus troupes, two zoos and one private house. This was announced on July 20 by the Land Office for Nature Protection. However, neither circuses, nor zoos, nor individuals lost lionesses….

It turns out that the lioness could only escape from a private owner, who never officially announced the content of a wild cat anywhere. It is known that in accordance with the rules for keeping especially dangerous species, including predators of the cat family, such animals are subject to registration in Germany.

A lioness roams Berlin

It would be funny if it wasn’t for the money… About 220 police officers, as well as drones, thermal helicopters and an armored personnel carrier, searched for the lion in what German newspaper Bild said was “the most expensive taxpayer-funded safari in history.” Germany, of course, is a rich country, but such senseless spending causes absolutely no joy among local taxpayers …
