The first psychological support center for employers and workers opened in Athens


The Athens Professional Chamber (EEA) and Thalpos-Mental Health have recently opened the first Employee Day Center in the Municipality of Athens, which entrepreneurs, their employees and their families will be able to attend free of charge, upon appointment, for mental health services.

Minister of Labor and Welfare Adonis Georgiadis, Undersecretary of Health for Mental Health Dimitris Vartsopoulos, Mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis, Former Undersecretary of Health for Mental Health and Representative of the ND Parliament Zoe Rapti, President of ΠΕΨΑΕΕ Menelaos Theodoroulakis and Scientific Director of the Center Sotiris Koupidis were present and spoke at the opening, according to a management statement. Also present at the inauguration of the center were the Deputy Minister of Education Domna Mikhailidou, PASOK-KINAL MP Pavlos Gerulanos, the Deputy Mayors of the Municipality of Athens Katerina Gagakis and Nikolaos Avramidis, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Piraeus Dimitris Karidis, the entire administrative committee ηνών (ΕΕΑ), as well as members of the board of directors.

Mr. Georgiadis spoke about the project, which is of great importance for employers and employees, noting, among other things: “In the times we live in, in conditions of great stress, rapid changes in the labor market, creating uncertainty, mental health is not a luxury, but a sufficient and necessary condition for economic development.”

Mr. Vartsopoulos outlined the activities of the centerexplaining that the specialists of the structure can offer support in dealing with everyday problems in the workplace, such as injustice, stress, overwork, bullying, as well as workers who have lost their jobs, as well as assistance to workers suffering from severe mental illness.

Mr. Bakoyannis noted: “Our responsibility is to fight mental health stigma and together encourage and support those who want to use the services of these structures,” and added: “As the municipality of Athens, we will be at your side so that we can constantly expand the mental protection network.”

Ms Rapti said: “The government is paying particular attention to the area of ​​mental health.” And emphasized the importance of partnership, which is reflected in this innovative new structure, which works in cooperation with ΕΕΑ, “Θάλπος” and Δήμου Αθηναίων (Municipality of Athens).

In his greeting, the President of the Chamber, Yiannis Hatsiteodosiou emphasized the need to provide psychological support to our fellow citizens who need itand combating stigmatization. For her part, the president of “Θάλπος” Athena Passiou spoke about the vision of the organization in order to improve the mental health and quality of life of all people without exception.
