A lioness roams Berlin

The Berlin police urges residents to stay at home, and to be careful and careful when going outside – a lioness has been spotted on the southwestern outskirts of the city.

For the first time, an unusual message was received by the police from two residents of Berlin, who spoke about a wild boar they saw, which was pursued by a predator. Then a video appeared on Twitter showing a lioness in a forest in Kleinmachnow (its authenticity has not been verified). The mystery remains how she could get on the streets of Berlin. Law enforcers say that all the lions “registered” in Berlin are in their place – in zoos, circuses and animal shelters, that is, no animal has escaped. A police spokesman told reporters, “We don’t know where it came from.”

The Brandenburg police ordered the residents of Kleinmachnow, Teltow and Stahnsdorf to stay at home early Thursday morning due to the threat of an “escaped wild animal”, but later tweeted:

“A wild animal can be a lioness. The warning zone has now been extended to the south of Berlin.”

However, not everyone believes in the reliability of reports about the lioness. Although police spokesman Daniel Cape told public broadcaster RBB:

“In the summer, you often hear reports of crocodiles swimming in the lakes, and then it turns out that it was a big duck. In this case, it’s completely real. We are dealing with a lioness who roams freely in Teltow, Stahnsdorf and Kleinmachnow.”

But the director of the circus in Teltow, Michel Rogal, who was awakened by the police at two in the morning, is not so sure and categorically states the opposite:

“If it’s a lion, I’ll eat my broom.”

Whatever the case, residents have been advised to keep their pets indoors, avoid the woods themselves, and immediately seek shelter if they see a lion. Helicopters were used to search for him, authorities said. Veterinarians and hunters with tranquilizer guns are also involved in the search, and, as writes Air force, the authorities hope to capture him in a humane way. Florian Eiserloh of the animal welfare organization Four Paws told the Rheinische Post newspaper that if someone encounters an animal, there is no need to panic:

“Stand still, stay calm, try to head to a safe place, like a car or a building.”

The Berlin authorities believe that the lion may simply be sleeping now in a wooded area.
