The dramatic rescue of a kitten trying not to drown in the sea took place off the island of Salamina on Monday. A member of the local ferry crew heard the kitten’s desperate cry for help and jumped into the water to save the little creature.
Thanassis Chiotis, without hesitation, swam to save the kitten. Having caught him, Thanassis held the baby above the surface of the sea so that he would not drink water, and the kitten continued to meow heart-rendingly. No one knows how the animal ended up in the sea – he fell himself or was thrown away. But most likely, some cruel person threw him into the sea. The kitten was lucky: he was not only saved, but also found his home – Thanassis took him to him.

The incident took place in the Faneromeni area. The rescuers have been identified as Thanassis Chiotis and Giorgos Karnesis, crew members of the Panagia Koimisis ferry, according to a FB post.
It is not the first time the crews of the ferries plying between the island of Salamina and Perama in Attica have rescued animals from the sea. They were mostly dogs, the site reports. zoosos.gr, on animal issues.
