Agios Panteleimonas: protest against Monday’s brutal murder of a 46-year-old transgender artist

LGBT unions and clubs have called for a rally and march in Agios Panteleimon following the brutal murder of a trans artist who was found dead in a pool of blood on Monday. The call says:

“Her name was Anna, she was a trans woman, an immigrant, a queen and our sister. She was killed because of transphobia, racism and poverty. We don’t forget. We don’t forgive. Saint Panteleimon Square.”

She was revealed by Red Umbrella Athens to be a 46-year-old Cuban transgender woman. According to a Facebook post by Anna Kurupou, founding member of the Athens organization Red Umbrella, and journalist Antonis Boskoitis, the body found on Monday afternoon July 11 in Agios Panteleimonas, with multiple penetrating wounds, belongs to her.

According to police sources, at first the victim was not identified and was previously unknown to law enforcement, but after a few hours, people who knew her reported through social media posts that she was a transgender woman from Cuba who had lived in Greece for the past 4 years and performed in a famous nightclub.

Her body was found in a pool of blood in a ground floor apartment in Agios Panteleimonas, Filis and Magnisias Street. The owner of the apartment came there for rent.

Experts and police arrived at the scene of the incident, writes newsbeast.gr, the Attica Security Authority is conducting a preliminary investigation. Journalist Antonis Boskoitis wrote on his Facebook account:

“While we do not know how and what exactly happened, whether it is a racially motivated crime or a crime of another kind. The fact is that a young talented man, who did not have the best life where he was born, became the victim of a terrible murder. You see, quite by chance at noon I told Thanasis Lala at a meeting how interesting it would be to have an interview with her. Poor Ivanka, poor creature. Worst of all, if she hadn’t been a little known due to her presence on The Dolls, we might never have known how she left.”
