Stopped to help in an accident and was the victim of theft

A 25-year-old man in Crete was the victim of a theft while trying to help people involved in a traffic accident.

The incident took place on 10/07 on Kazantsidi Avenue in Heraklion. A young man who was traveling in a private car witnessed a traffic accident. He immediately stopped and rushed to help, leaving his car open. What did not go unnoticed for a 43-year-old Algerian who saw a wallet in the car, opened it, took 150 euros and tried to hide, ERT reports.

However, he did not count on the reaction of a citizen who saw the theft and began to scream. The Algerian was forced to return 150 euros, but he did not escape arrest, as the police were informed.

Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene searched the foreigner. He was found in possession of 1,500 euros, a mobile phone and a garage door remote control, the possession of which he could not explain.

The Algerian was also found in possession of, in addition to his passport, a police identification card issued by the French authorities, which contained other information. So, in addition to the main corpus delicti (catch red-handed at the scene of theft), the criminal case against him includes the article “use of fictitious documents.”
