The Greek Mint will issue a 100 euro bullion coin Artemis, which will be released in the Greek Mythology series.
At the beginning of 2022, the Bank of Greece issued a €100 commemorative investment coin Artemis. This banknote was released in the Greek Mythology series, according to the official portal of the regulator.
Artemis, daughter of Zeus and Leto, was born on the island of Delos along with her twin brother Apollo. She was the goddess of hunting and wildlife, as well as childbearing, hence her role as protector of children. Usually depicted with a bow and quiver of arrows, accompanied by a deer, Artemis was a virgin deity, like Athena and Hestia. She will severely punish anyone who dares to cross her path. From Agamemnon, who killed her sacred deer, she demanded in revenge to sacrifice her own daughter Iphigenia. Due to the nature of her cult, she was mostly worshiped in the countryside. The main sanctuaries of Artemis were in Sparta (Artemis Orthia), in Karies, Laconia, where local women (caryatids) honored the goddess with dances, as well as in Brauron, in Attica. The famous temple dedicated to her at Ephesus was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
