Information about 15 members of a criminal organization who stole from the homes of elderly people posing as employees DEDDIE (electrical company) or elevator maintenance workers, was made public following a relevant decision by the Attorney General’s Office of Athens.
The criminal group was liquidated on June 22 by employees of the Amarousiou department (Attica Police Department). Malefactors “purged” unsuspecting elderly people and used their helplessness.
A criminal case has been initiated against 15 people for creating and joining a criminal organization with the aim of committing serious crimes and major thefts. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at more than 600,000 euros. In addition, during a search in the homes of criminals, firearms were found. Also false electricians are charged with money laundering. In addition to those arrested, 7 more citizens were charged.
Since the beginning of the investigation, 20 cases of theft and 4 attempted thefts have been detected from houses located in the areas of Koukaki, Galatsi, Kifisia, Zografou, Chalandri, Marousi, Agia Paraskevi, Paleo Faliro, Psychiko, Nea Smyrni, Nea Chalkidona and Cholargo.
As previously reported by Athens News, the attackers pretending to be employees of an electrical company or workers maintaining elevators. During the operations carried out on 22/06 in the districts of Western Attica, with the participation of police officers from the Department of Marousi (a subdivision of North-East Attica), the Emergency Response Directorate and OPKE 11 members of the criminal organization were identified and detained.
In relation to them, as well as seven other people who are wanted, a criminal case was initiated on the fact of the creation of a criminal organization, whose members were engaged in committing theft. In addition, they are charged with violating the law on weapons.
According to ΕΛΑΣ, the defendants, who are related to each other, founded a criminal organization about two and a half years ago. At the same time, they were equipped with several cars, which they used in turn, and if they were detected by the authorities, they immediately got rid of them.

The alleged perpetrators, based in Ano Liosia, drove their cars around the districts of Attica and looked for potential victims, mostly elderly people, who were discreetly followed on their way home. Then they approached and in several cases even showed the identity of the service companies, posing as employees. DEDDIE or elevator operators, persuading them to let them into the house.
One of the “workers” engaged the tenant in conversation, and the second at that time “rummaged around the house” in search of money and jewelry. When committing crimes, gloves and medical masks were used so that they would not be identified later. And then they fled the scene in cars in which accomplices were waiting for them.
During searches conducted by the police in residential buildings, as well as in a bank safe, they found and seized: a lot of valuable jewelry (gold chains, bracelets, necklaces, crosses, rings, watches, brooches, earrings, etc.), 46 gold coins, 59,380 euros , $31, semi-automatic stun gun, hunting rifle, voice recorder, 3 mobile phones and a checkbook.
