A bilateral meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled for July and will take place during the NATO summit in Lithuania, which will be held in Vilnius on July 11-12.
About it reported on the official website of the Greek head of government. Earlier, Mitsotakis and Erdogan held a telephone conversation at the initiative of the latter, during which the Turkish leader congratulated the Greek Prime Minister on taking office.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis officially headed the new government after his party’s landslide victory in the parliamentary elections. Two NATO members, Greece and Turkey, have been at odds for years over a range of issues, notably over territorial claims in the Aegean Sea and the airspace over it.
The support shown by Greece against the backdrop of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey at the beginning of the year contributed to some de-escalation of disputes. Athens and Ankara have resumed high-level meetings – in particular, talks with high-ranking diplomats on the so-called positive agenda initiative aimed at boosting trade and other cooperation.
