Protect your yard and garden

Experts give advice on how to protect your home from the outside, increase the security of your garden or yard.

Earlier, our publication wrote about how to protect your windows. It’s time to talk about the surrounding area – not only a robber can violate its security, but also a homeless animal that has climbed into the garden. There are many great and inexpensive ideas, you just have to choose the most suitable for your space.

Flashing warning light

Such a lamp is perfectly visible from the outside and will serve as an effective deterrent for potential robbers. Also install a security camera to view the space. However, installing a security system means that your garden fence and plants don’t have to be too high to allow you to see what’s going on around the garden. That is, it is better to have a fence and garden plants at an average height.

Deceiver Signs

A simple but not simplistic solution is warning signs in prominent places outside. They can be both real and … fake. They should have a mention of the protection of the house by a security company or the inscription “Beware of the dog.” Crackers are generally risk averse—anything that forces them to spend time trying to make sure they can get in can serve as a deterrent.

helper plants

Prickly bushes or plants around the fence are not only effective, but also a beautiful way to prevent someone from jumping over the fence. For example, a well-groomed oleander* can create a dense mesh that will keep burglars out or make access very difficult. Consult an expert about the risks to your pet and children.

Guard dog

Get a dog, this is one of the most popular solutions for the security of your yard and home! A guard dog is a tough barrier to any external danger, a faithful guardian and, of course, a best friend. An indispensable condition: be sure to take care of her proper training.

Night lighting in the garden

Do not save on a lantern in the garden – its light will not allow anyone to go unnoticed. Make sure that the entire space is well lit, do not leave “blind spots”. If they still remain, use additional fixtures.

strong fence

When erecting a fence, choose a durable material: wood, for example, is weaker than stone or metal. However, a combination of several methods (a wooden fence and a thorny bush) will be no less effective.

Barbed wire

Placing barbed wire over a fence is a great way to keep a burglar from breaking in. Surely he will not waste time cutting it, risking, moreover, cutting himself. Be sure to calculate at what height the “thorn” will be – this solution is not suitable for a low fence, as the wire can injure passers-by or children.

noisy gravel

A gravel path around the perimeter of the garden can give you a sound signal from footsteps. This is unlikely to deter a burglar, but it can be a warning to those living in the house about an uninvited guest.

Motion sensors

By installing light motion sensors, you will always be aware that someone has passed by them. The device is motion-activated and emits a bright light to alert you. Among the many models and types available on the market, you can choose the most suitable for your space and according to financial capabilities.
