The alarm signal was received in the morning by the fire department in connection with a fire that arose in one of the buildings in the center of Athens, at the intersection of Favierou and Psarron streets.
The fire broke out in an abandoned mall building. According to the fire department, it broke out at 08:15 in a shop on the first floor. Residents were evacuated.
Citizens living in neighboring apartment buildings and buildings were evacuated to a safe area. Due to the fire, the traffic police stopped the movement of vehicles on Favier Street (from the height of its intersection with Psaron street). The surrounding area was filled with acrid smoke.
Currently, 12 firefighters, 4 specialized vehicles and a mechanism with a retractable ladder are working to extinguish the fire.
