When will the bike lane on the embankment be ready?

The new, fairly long Attica cycle path will make a decisive contribution to making the capital’s urban coastline one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Alimos Mayor Andreas Kondylis spoke at the ERT’s “Connections” program, calling the restoration of the coastline in Alimos one of the largest activities carried out in the southern suburbs of Attica. The modernization will mean an aesthetic and qualitative renewal of the coastline, as part of a major renovation of the Athenian Riviera, work on which has already begun.

Recall that the project “Athenian Riviera-City Promenade” (Αθηναϊκή Ριβιέρα -Αστικός Περίπατος) concerns the construction single bicycle and pedestrian network on the coastal front of the prefecture of Attica, from the mouth of Kifissos to the city hall of Vari-Voulas-Vouliagmenis. The design study has been completed and sent to the Attica regional authorities for approval, after which some permits will need to be obtained. Next, the TAIPED tender will take place, and after the approval of the contractor, construction work will begin.

The cycle path will be about 13.5 km long and will be one of the longest cycle routes in the capital, covering six municipalities (Kallithea, P. Faliro, Alimos, Elliniko-Argyroupoli, Glyfada, Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni).

The entire bike path is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, and is part of the Greece 2.0 National Recovery and Stability Plan with a budget of 24 million euros.

It is noted that the project “Athenian Riviera – City Promenade” is aimed at improving the urban environment by improving the quality of urban space and attracting new functions of economic activity. At the same time, it will have a positive impact on the natural environment of urban centers and create new jobs. Recall that the regional authorities of Attica are also launching a major project of the Gazi-Kifisia metropolitan cycle path with a length of 17.8 km, which will become the longest cycle path in the capital.
