Road, "hovering over the water"

The unique experience of driving on a narrow strip of land that crosses the Gulf of Amvrakikos is truly unforgettable for travelers.

Greece is known as a place blessed and endowed with endless beauty. And not without reason. For example, the road to Amvrakio. This is one of the places where nature has created images that delight and awe millions of travelers.

The vast majority of foreign visitors to our country know about the Greek islands with golden sands and blue-green waters. However, only a few are aware of any other natural “treasures”. And how to recognize them, when their existence is often unknown even to us, the locals.

Coronesia Arthas, a fishing village of just 167 people, located in the heart of the Gulf of Amvrakiko, is one of the lesser-known yet incomparably beautiful places. This is a piece of land that “floats above the water” and is located about 25 kilometers from the city of Arta. The remoteness from the mainland makes the island special. A narrow strip of paved road 6.5 km long connects Coronesia with Epirus and separates the Logaru and Tsoukalio lagoons.

Traveling along this incomparable road captivates travelers, making them think that they are traveling on water. The experience is amazing and makes tourists want to ride it again, experience that magical feeling. Impressions are enhanced by the panorama of the numerous Lilliputian islets, which, as they say, were once united and looked like tongues of sand from above, and are now partially flooded.

It is noted that Osios Onoufrios lived in Koronesia Artas, and about 35 pairs of the rare, endangered silver pelican nest in the lagoon of Tsoukalio. The warm shallow waters are an ideal breeding ground for many species of marine life.

Koronesia Artas (Κορωνησία Άρτας) is also famous for the sardine festival, organized in the second half of August, and attracts “sophisticated” visitors who prefer alternative ways of relaxing, as opposed to those who are attracted by noisy bars and nightly parties.
