Geopolitical Changes: Iran Signs Eurasian Union Accession Agreement, Breaking Embargo and Isolation

Cosmogonical changes are taking place in world geopolitics: Iran is emerging from the isolation imposed by the Americans for more than four decades, joining the Eurasian Union led by Russia.

In particular, he will join the EAEU free trade zone by signing an agreement in the coming months, according to Kazem Jalali, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow. The ambassador added that Tehran is ready to completely stop any visa regime between Iran and Russia. This means that Iranians and Russians will be able to travel freely between the two countries.

The Iranians, thanks to this association, will be able to receive goods and products directly, and not through roundabout ways, as they have done so far, and will also have access to technologies and raw materials, of course, mainly from Russia. This agreement must be ratified by the parliaments of the members of the Eurasian Union and, of course, by the Iranian parliament.

The accession of Iran not only increases the total area of ​​the Eurasian Union, but also the total population. 80 million Iranians will be added to the already existing 183 million. But Iran’s membership in the Eurasian Organization paves the way for Tehran’s subsequent membership in the Shanghai Organization, which is the jewel in the crown of the geopolitical “siege” as Iran emerges as a rival to the West. Of course, this organization also serves the ultimate goal of China and Russia – the expansion of the BRICS.

The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is an economic union of states, mainly from northern Eurasia, which became the successor to the Eurasian Economic Community. The agreement on the creation of the EAEU was signed on May 29, 2014 by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, and entered into force on January 1, 2015. The agreements aimed at the accession of Armenia and Kyrgyzstan to the Eurasian Economic Union were signed on October 9, 2014 and December 23, 2014, respectively.

Armenia officially became a member of the union on January 2, 2015. Although the accession agreement of Kyrgyzstan entered into force in May 2015, it has been participating in the organization since its inception as an affiliate member.

Considering the goal set, the development of the Eurasian Economic Union into a political supranational formation in the form of the Eurasian Union, it can be argued that the entire project is a key pillar of the modern Russian political strategy.
