600 passengers on a train on the Athens-Thessaloniki route were stuck on Friday in northern Greece due to a technical problem in the traffic control system.
According to passengers, the delay reached 1.5 hours, although Hellenic Train representatives spoke of a delay of 50 minutes.
The reason for another day of inconvenience for Hellenic Train passengers was the failure of the railway switch, which jammed at the TX1 point between Sindos and Thessaloniki, as a result of which even local processing of the switching of railway lines could not be completed, the newspaper reports. ethnos.gr. In practice, this meant that train traffic was halted for all trains on the railway line both to and from Thessaloniki, as well as on the suburban routes of Thessaloniki.
Train IC52, with 300 passengers, was stopped at this point until the damage was repaired by the crew oseresponsible for infrastructure. Stranded passengers complained on social media that the company did not provide a single bus to take them to their destination, despite the summer heat, they were not even offered a bottle of water.
Passengers also complained that they were forced to disembark at Sindos and, as an alternative, were offered to stay on the train for an unknown amount of time, media reported.
