The heat is coming: areas where +37°C is expected

A heat wave, which is expected to cover several regions of the country as it approaches the end of the week, was published by meteorologist Georgios Tsatrafillias.

As the expert warns, the thermometer can rise to +37°C, although, in general, the air temperature in Attica will be around +35°C. This is the first wave of heat that will move from Africa through Italy to Greece. Regions where particularly hot weather is expected:

• ETOLOAKARNIANIA
• ACHIA
• LACONIA
• ARGOLIDA
• VIOTIA
• THESSALIA

In Attica, and Athens in particular, the air temperature will rise to +35°C. In Thessaloniki, +33°C is expected, on the islands, mainly +34°C.

The Greek Ministry of Health and the General Secretariat for the Protection of Citizens recommend that Athenians and visitors to the Greek capital, especially those with health problems, reduce their travel around the city, exposure to the sun and work on these days as much as possible.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that, according to the laws of Greece, every person can enter any public premises such as a shop, cafe or bank that has air conditioning, and stay there as long as necessary. Naturally, no later than before closing. By the way, since we have already touched on this topic, in Greece it is not considered shameful to ask to go to the toilet in any public institution if you are impatient or need to cool off with a bit of water from the washbasin. No one will look askance at you, and even more so they will not ban you.

“Athenian News” give some advice on how to cope with the heat. In hot weather, people drink liquid not in glasses, but in liters. But this is far from the best solution. Why do some people drink 2-3 liters a day, while others are content with a few glasses of tea? And also warm? The minimum required to maintain normal water balance in the body is 1.5 liters at an average air temperature of 21 ° C, 1.9 liters at 26 ° C, 3 liters at 32°C and up to 4 liters at 35°C (and in Greece this is not uncommon).

Studies confirm that lovers of soft drinks in the heat lose up to 12 liters of fluid per day. And along with it, salts leave the body, which just hold the fluid in the tissues. It turns out that the more you drink, the more you want.

Ice water does not help with thirst. It stays longer in the stomach, and the mineral salts contained in it do not enter the cells of the body for a long time. Plus, cold liquids make you sweat even more. You probably won’t like it. So drink water at room temperature.

Juice. The acid irritates the taste buds, profuse salivation begins and dry mouth disappears. Juices are best drunk diluted.

Bread kvass not only perfectly quenches thirst, but also contains vitamins and microelements. But do not drink carbonated kvass.

Soda. Sweet drinks with gas do not quench thirst at all. Some of them excite her even more. In addition, extra folds appear on the stomach from sugar.

Kefir and yogurt quench thirst, quickly absorbed. It is best not to mix with milk.

Beer. After a foamy drink at a high temperature, get ready to count the pillars with your head. Therefore, if you drink, then only light, not stronger than 4.5 degrees, since alcohol accelerates dehydration.

Green tea Better without sugar. It’s even better if it’s hot.

Black tea with milk useful not only to the British, but also to people with kidney disease.

Morse, dried fruit compote – tasty and healthy. Of course, if without sugar and dyes.

The air conditioner must be handled properly. There are many cases when people got into a cold room for several minutes and had a severe cold. Therefore, stepping into the cool hall of a store or office from the heat, stay away from the currents of cold air, no matter how much you would like the opposite. Get used to the cold gradually.

Do not open the windows in the car while the air conditioner is running. A draft will instantly turn your healthy nose into something that blows your nose, and besides, you will lose extra fuel, which costs quite a lot here. Alternatively, you can slightly open the window, literally half a finger, to dilute the air a little.

If you are working in an air-conditioned room, the optimum chilled air temperature should be 22-24 degrees. Moreover, each degree below these indicators is an additional 10-15% of electricity costs. However, in this case, it is better to stay away from the air conditioner.
