Five people were arrested for violating Greek electoral law in Karditsa on Saturday evening.
For a certain amount of money, they offered citizens to vote for a particular candidate. The detention was carried out by employees of Ο.Π.Κ.Ε. When examining the car of one of the detainees, according to ΕΛΑΣ, “crossed out” ballot papers and 6060 euros were found. The check also found:
- 197 identity cards;
- passport;
- 2 photocopies of identity cards;
- a bag with 114 sealed envelopes containing a candidate’s card and five ballot papers with the name of this candidate with a “cross”.
The Department of Security of Karditsa withdrew all of the above, as a preliminary investigation established the facts of the detainees’ appeal to voters in order to persuade them to vote for a candidate in exchange for a sum of money. The prosecutor of the Karditsa district court was informed about the incident, writes CNN Greece.
