Moldova decided to leave the CIS and began the procedure for withdrawing from the Commonwealth

Igor Grosu, head of the Moldovan Parliament, announced the start of the country’s exit process from the Commonwealth of Independent States:

“After 30 years, it became absolutely clear that Moldova’s membership in the structures of the CIS did not help resolve the Transnistrian conflict, did not help withdraw the Russian army from the territory of Moldova, did not protect against the economic embargo in the most difficult times.”

Grosu said, writes BB.LV, which proposed to the Prime Minister of the country to prepare a legislative initiative to denounce the Convention on the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly of March 17, 1998.

To date, the Commonwealth of Independent States includes: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. Georgia left the CIS in 2009, and Ukraine in 2018.
