Issued over 100 fake health certificates to sex workers (updated)

Greek law enforcement authorities on Tuesday, May 9, arrested a hospital employee in Attica on the basis of a warrant on charges of taking a bribe and forgery.

The police received information according to which a hospital employee issued fake health certificates (absence of sexually transmitted diseases and STDs) to women, sex workers, for a sum of money, without passing the prescribed and necessary medical examinations. (This was previously reported by Athens News.).

The investigation revealed that this person, who is responsible for the processing and analysis of blood samples, and who has access to official documents and records of the hospital, filled out and issued official medical certificates with seals, in most cases without performing prescribed medical examinations (and smears) for sexually transmitted diseases and other infectious diseases.

Since the beginning of 2023, the detainee acted in the above manner in at least one hundred and one identified cases of issuing false documents (certificates) in order to obtain illegal income, while in each case he received an amount of 60-80 euros.

As a result of searches conducted in his office and home, an electronic computer, a laptop, a mobile phone, 4 medical tests and 2 fake stamps were found and seized. The detainee will be taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
